ABOUT LVY FIELD HOCKEY LEAGUE
VISION / MISSION
- Our Vision is to grow the game of field hockey one youth player at a time.
- Our Mission is to provide a FUN and SAFE place for ALL of our players to learn and LOVE the game of field hockey.
History
- In 2020, mid-pandemic, five local recreational programs created a weekly fall field hockey game schedule in order to keep their programs going in-lieu of tournaments.
- In the fall of 2021 some programs brought back tournaments, but they were limited to teams within their county. This left the Lehigh Valley youth out of Field Hockey. What was created worked, so we did it again (fall 2022) and decided to work to make it more official.
Culture
- This league is a place for our kids to compete in a safe and fun environment where we care more about learning / loving the game than winning.
- We do not keep track of scores for the league and there are no league rankings / playoffs.

LVY Field Hockey league culture
- This league is a place for our kids to compete in a safe and fun environment where we care more about learning / loving the game than winning. We do not keep track of scores for the league and there are no league rankings / playoffs.
- All programs participating must agree to create evenly skilled teams within the grade level. No stacking of teams or creating an older team (all 6th graders) and a younger (all 5th graders) team.
- All programs participating must agree to the sportsmanship guidelines (regarding running up the score and utilizing power down strategies). The goal is to keep the score respectable. This is not a perfect system and we have had to have some tough conversations with coaches - but we all agree this is the best for all players and have committed to enforcing it.
- All programs participating must agree to maintaining a fun atmosphere. We do not want coaches screaming at players, coaching to win at all cost, or leaving players on the sidelines without playing them.
- Similarly we do not want that behavior from parents and we expect commissioners to set this expectation with parents and coaches from the beginning of the season. We will support each other in this culture of sportsmanship and are willing to talk with those that cannot.
